I sometimes wonder why I can't muster the passion and dedication to subscribe to Macleans, and this recent commentary by Feschuk kind of reminds me.
You, like me, may not like the Tory attack ads. I have said long ago that attacking Ignatieff because he loved the country he lived in was a cheap shot. A few weeks back I stumbled upon a comment in the Globe and Mail that essentially turned the tables on the PM, and imagined what a Liberal attack ad of the same format would contain. No surprise, it's the bogeymen every opponent lets loose whenever an election is looming, and which have all been thrown out of Party policy ages ago.
The Globe's assumption is false on one elementary count: while the PM and the Conservative Party have long recanted their unpalatable views, Ignatieff has kept the door open to a Coalition even after this election and has done nothing to disprove the attack's allegations. He is too arrogant to admit he was wrong, and it will be his undoing.
In the meantime, critics of Tory marketing tactics should think twice before slinging around accusations of ill-will. No-one in the Party is as cynical as to assume supporters will believe a "memo" fundraising letter is an actual memo. Marketing is marketing: if a certain tactic works you don't question why it does, you just use it.
Knowing what makes people tick is different from assuming they're stupid. That's the Liberals' domain.

The beauty of the attacks on Iggy's love of America is that for decades lefties have used fear of America as a weapon against conservatives. It just feels good to throw this in their face.
It's not about Ignatieff loving the countries he lives in -- he claimed to be one of them, whether American or British. More importantly, he insulted Canada while away, dissing our flag and saying he did not miss anything from Canada (except Algonquin Park). It is not appropriate for a candidate for Prime Minister to say these things.
I am considering posting bioterror blueprints on all blogs until I'm banned. I had a hookup in the who I thought was cool, but wound up with two solidified chunks of god knows what after dried. Now I'm SOL my existing new connect. The allocation of the scarce resources in the future will be based on mind states beyond $10000/yr PPP (for which market forces appear very good). I hate myself so much now. CPC is taking us to a dead end where people get fat and live to 70s and die. And civilization might not survive AGW let alone future $quadrillions/yr market failures. Harper has put dealers in a position of power over me and I am seriously considering retaliating. There might be a manchurian candidate implant or drug that destabilizes Earth analogous to facebook spread of unrest now. There will be a need for a RW brake on that but Harper and GOP are arresting potheads and hard drugs users now without even considering effects of psychotropic fiending (smaokes), being high, non psychotropic fiending (coffee)...leaving us totally defenseless against the future. We could limit the number of people high on 22nd crack at any given time. Charge more beyond 1st two beers. Force free will with weekly or monthly sobriety discounts/legislation. I really wish I could get my serotonin or dopamine or whatever from families and a healthy relationship, but that hasn't been my life to date. AB is +$35B and minus $21B in revenue payments a yr. What is that adjusted for inflation historically? What will that be a carbon free future? What are the costs of following down the neocon road that has led USA to a deadend? Beyond the first $10000, sprawl is a useless arms race. In AB, a cool coworker mentioned how clean Cgy is noticing my 7-straight FT shift beard. A fat guy with a hotchick on the bus noted I could make $50000-$60000 telemarketing (hope he doesn't have diabetes or stroke). People made fun of a mentally ill guy who did the hardest job (picking on chimney fluff). Is fine but should've been making $10/hr, not $16+/hr. They used their pay to reinforce ego.
I can't buy coffee with a woman who doesn't want me. Can't buy peace of mind. That comes from good nuclear family or good Crowns.
Mr. McGuinty, Mr. Murray, do you know this man?, because you gave him $341,644.
Mr. McGuinty, do you know McKenley Esnard? I hope so. Because you gave him $341,644. $341,644 of Ontario Taxpayer Money.
Minister Murray, do you know McKenley Esnard? I hope so. You see, you’re quoted in his company’s press release of August 25th, 2011 talking about how “proud” you are to support companies like his (see attached report).
You know who does know McKenley Esnard? The Ontario Securities Commission. They know him. Why? Because they’re investigating him. The file number is # 20110926-8862.
Do you know who DOESN’T KNOW McKenley Esnard? The Harvard Business School doesn’t. That’s who doesn’t know him, even though he claims to have a Harvard MBA. Call their Registrar’s Office and see for yourself. (see attached report)
You know who else DOESN’T KNOW McKenley Esnard? The University of Toronto and the University of Vermont. They don’t know him even though McKenley Esnard claims to have three (3) PhDs from these schools (see attached report)
In total, our investigation found fourteen (14) fraudulent misrepresentations in his professional biography. (see attached report)
As the Chairman of the Board of ENPAR Technologies, the company you gave $341,644, McKenley Esnard is raising money – our money – using fraudulent credentials. That’s a material violation of Securities regulations. That’s why the OSC is investigating McKenley Esnard.
Fake credentials. Real money. Our money.
C’mon Dalton. C’mon Minister Murray. Ontario Taxpayers deserve better.
Stop the Fraud Now!
Signed,
Ontario Taxpayers Revolt
